Holy cow, I had no idea. Congratulations....Jamie! Holy cow, I had no idea. Congratulations.

Regarding books, the Sears books are like the OED of babies. i.e., you don't read them cover to cover, but as reference.

Also, I highly recommend The Scientist in the Crib. About cognitive development in several areas (things, people, language etc), when certain leaps are made and why. I read it twice, every page.

- George Wolf

PS: Our #2 due in two weeks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9732443.post-1104366700550619352004-12-29T16:31:00.000-08:002004-12-29T16:31:00.000-08:00Jimmy James -

I've figured out that when Owen's fussy, he'll actually go to sleep, but only after I go in and check on him twice. Not once. Not thrice (he'll wake back up). But twice. No baby book is going to tell you the particulars for Sofia. Get used to that.

I do like the idea of for the "100 Ways" book, however.

-AAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9732443.post-1104167441005939132004-12-27T09:10:00.000-08:002004-12-27T09:10:00.000-08:00We have What To Expect The First Year, and yes, it...We have What To Expect The First Year, and yes, it's a manual of terror, which is great as a reference when needed. I also read The Expectant Father and The New Father, and they were pretty arse. At the risk of offending, I don't trust anyway who plants a tree over their child's placenta.

Becca is pretty accomodating so most of our reading most recently was about sleep cycles after Becca went through a rough patch of poor sleep. Jude has Sears' The Baby Book, The No-Cry Sleep Solution, and Healthy Sleep Habits Healthy Child. Jude sez: "Sears is a hippy book. No-Cry is similar to Healthy Sleep but they don't recommend letting them cry while Healthy Sleep is all about them crying it out." You're a few months out from worrying about sleep routines, though.

For the most part our information intake now is anecdotal or professional--talking to Joe/Mark/Bill or our pediatrician. When we were navigating the byways of breastfeeding we called a lactation consultant a few times, very helpful although mostly as a reality check; we never had one come out.

m.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
